Troubleshooting
Outlook SMTP AUTH configuration

Only Outlook 2000 and Outlook 2002 have currently been tested.  These instructions and screenshots were generated from Outlook 2000. According to multiple sources on the Internet, these same instructions should work fine for Outlook Express 4.0, Outlook Express 5.0 and Outlook 98. Outlook 97 will not work. It did not include SMTP AUTH support.

Outlook only supports a clear-text SMTP AUTH protocol so SSL use is required.

Step 1

To configure SMTP AUTH in Outlook, first select item "Accounts..." in the "Tools" menu as shown on the picture below.

Step 4

A window label "Outgoing Mail Server" will pop up next.  If you are using mx.powernethk.com as your incoming mail server, check "Use same settings as my incoming mail server"  as shown below.   Otherwise, check "Log on using" and put in your incoming mail server Account Name and Password.  Do not select "Log on using Secure Password Authentication". Hit "OK" to save these changes.
