56k Modem Dialup
As part of our commitment to offer you the Fastest Access speed in Hong Kong, we have installed full digital systems enabling you to surf or download at higher speeds, however you must switch to the modems we specify.

If you have purchased a new 56K modem either running X2 technology, K56 FLEX and V.90 standard, you'll be able to surf the WEB at 56K. The Dial-Up modem pool numbers are different for the three standards. Remember, only use these numbers if you have the type of 56K modems we have specified.

Dial-up Numbers:
US Robotics X2 / V.90 : 3005-3500 / 3005-3501

K56 FLEX : 3005-3500 / 3005-3501

Technical Note
With the 56K modem, you can only surf and download at 56K. Uploading or sending files will still be at 33.6K speeds.

Taking into account the quality of phone lines in Hong Kong and noise factor in the lines, a maximum speed of only 51Kbps can be achieved according to our tests, even though it says it is a 56K modem.

If you are using a script to login, you may have to change it. This modem pool is "auto-ppp" enabled, which means when you login, you just have to type "username" and "password", then press the "continue" button. You will no longer have to type "ppp".

Upgrading to V.90 In order to use the new 56K standard - V.90, a V.90 compatible modem is required. A 56K modem (K56Flex or X2) can also use the V.90 standard if it is upgradable to V.90 standard. To upgrade your existing 56K modem, please refer to your modem's user manual first.
